大卫 is not a name a native would pick

If a teacher, a Bible, or a tourist caption gave you 大卫, they gave you the dictionary row for David. Two graphs. No family name. Same pipeline as 约翰 and 凯文. We do not have a private student named David to hang this on, and we will not invent one.

2–6 Han characters. The name you already have — not a wish list.

大卫 is the default mapping, not a student anecdote

大卫 is how textbooks, church Bibles, and news desks spell David. It is the same family of classroom/news mappings as 约翰 for John and 凯文 for Kevin: sound first, grammar never. There is no 百家姓 in first position. You cannot split 大卫 into a plausible 姓 + 名 without leaving the language. That is a useful job for a newscaster. It is not a name. This page is about that default. It is not a story about a private David in a Mandarin class.

A different David: 魏德巍 → 卫奕信

David Wilson, later governor of Hong Kong, is a different David — not the 大卫 row. He was given 魏德巍, then the government changed it to 卫奕信 after warnings that the old graphs carried two ghosts knocking at the door (双鬼拍门): 魏 and 巍 both contain 鬼. UPI reported the change in February 1987; Chinese Wikipedia records the graphs. That is proof that even a 'cultured' David, built for sound and a couplet, can fail when natives read the radicals. 卫奕信 later sits as 姓 + 名. 大卫 never does. Wilson is the exhibit. 大卫 is still the Kill.

We will not mint a David

Paste 大卫 at the checker on this page, or any other string at /check. Kill means: do not print the textbook row. This site will not generate a replacement. If you want a name natives would actually use, that door is NativeChineseName.com/get — still not a generator here.
