Public, attested patterns: textbook transliterations, salad collisions, captions, Xinhua dots. Cited as cultural examples — including a public figure's news-wire spelling — not as a roast of a private person.

  The Xinhua row for John. 约 and 翰 are sound-spellings. There is no 百家姓 surname. A native does not introduce themselves as 约翰 unless they are reading someone else's passport.

• 莎拉

  玛 is a foreign-name marker. 玛丽 is what hymnals and English tests use for Mary. It is not how Han personal names are built.
